One to One Reading program in Abbotsford
The Down Syndrome Research Foundation and the Centre for Specialized Learning plan to offer One to One Reading in Abbotsford starting Wednesday July 6th
About Us
The Centre for Specialized Learning (CSL) is a unique learning centre operated under the umbrella of the Down Syndrome Research Foundation (DSRF).  Located in the same facility, the CSL benefits greatly from research conducted by the DSRF’s onsite research team.  This research focuses on understanding the differences in learning styles and needs using behavioural assessments and leading edge, non-invasive brain imaging technology.

This research allows us to better understand how people with disabilities learn.  It provides us with the knowledge to create a learning environment where people with a wide variety of developmental and learning disabilities can gain the confidence, skills and resources necessary to flourish in their community – to do what is in their best interests, and to foresee or deal effectively with the consequences of their actions.

In today’s world, it is expected that all individuals living with a disability are participating members in their community.  Unfortunately, there are challenges in our education system and gaps in our community resources and services to make this happen.  The educational programs at CSL effectively fill that gap.

Our student population includes individuals with Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, general developmental delays and other developmental disabilities.  Our literacy programs are also suited to children and young adults within the ESL community.
