The Down Syndrome Research Foundation and the Centre for Specialized Learning plan to offer One to One Reading in Abbotsford starting Wednesday July 6th if there is sufficient demand for the program. These classes are one hour and will be offered at 10:00 to 11:00, 11:00 to 12:00, 12:00 to 1:00, 1:00 to 2:00 and 2:00 to 3:00. This is a tentative schedule which can be modified if there are other times that work better. Please contact Pat Hanbury at 604-444-3773 if interested in this program.

Program fees are $480 for the 8 week summer program plus $50 for an additional reading assessment appointment. Each weekly class includes one additional half hour of material preparation. The fees can be paid by the month through post-dated cheque or pre-authorized credit card.
Early Foundations is a one to one program designed for children ages 3 to 6. We make learning fun in a supportive learning environment designed to complement school-based learning through:

Our goal is to achieve individual progression in the following areas:
• Expressive language: increasing single words and word combinations through reading and discussion
• Reading: with a focus on high meaning sight words, consonant sounds, and short vowel sounds
• Numeracy: matching, sorting, patterning, seriation and one to one correspondence
• Keyboard: finding letters and mouse control
• Printing: shapes, letters, name, words and sentences using multi-sensory and fine motor activities
• Comprehension: increased capacity to understand a story
• Schedule: use of a visual schedule to support learning
• Self-regulation: learning to make choices and self-express
Success, Builders, Launch Pad and Read On! , are one to one programs designed to teach reading and increase social communication in children, teen and adult learners. These programs support learners from beginning readers to more skilled readers who seek to increase reading and comprehension skills. We build confidence and support lifelong development in a supportive environment that includes:
• Assessment

• Expressive language: combining words together in sentences of increasing complexity through reading and discussion
• Reading: use of strategies that range from high meaning sight words, high frequency words, consonant and vowel sounds, word families, blended sounds and segmenting
• Comprehension: develop increased capacity to comprehend through strategies that include prediction, modeling, questioning, and connecting to personal experiences
• Numeracy: individual goals that range from counting, one to correspondence, addition, subtraction, money math, concepts of time, grouping and multiplication
• Keyboard: individual goals that range from letter finding and mouse control to journal and report writing
• Printing: goals that range from printing of name to words and sentences
• Schedule: use of a visual schedule to support learning
